Buying an economical family car

I currently own a 53 plate Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDi and I average 44-48mpg.

I'm looking to purchase a used (up to 18-month old ) family car (£10K to max £12K).

I would idealy like a diesel due to reliability and mpg, but have concerns over the DPF as I only travel about 9,000 miles per annum - a nine mile commute to work and a lot of small trips

I don't like the Yeti or Multipla - is there anything you would recommend?

Don't buy a used diesel for reliability because you won't get it. Petrol makes much more sense for overall running costs. You'll get a new runout Hyundai i30 or KIA cee'd for your money with a 5 or 7 year warranty.
