Cover up

Most "damage" to 'Modern paint finishes' is caused by abrasive automatic car washes, poor hand car washes that have sprung up in all towns, and customer neglect of the paint finish, with it being viewed as maintenance free, but expectations of gloss retention and appearance being to 'showroom' standard after exposure to the elements for many thousands of miles. All manufacturers offer corrosion/paint integrity guarantees in excess of 5 years. Paint finishes are tested for hardness, impact resistance, flexibility (plastic paints), etc., and exposed around the World for 'weathering' tests. Most 'solid' colours are still Solvent based and the switch to water based finishes by the majority of manufacturers is relatively recent and ongoing. Surface clearcoats are still Solvent based. The application of dealer applied paint protection systems does not improve the performance of the paint finish.

Autoglym will dispute your last statement and prove it. The average paint warranty is 3 years, not 5 (KIA’s is 5). Longer bodywork warranties are for non-perforation of the metal by corrosion.
