Can I recommend Garmendale Engineering to build solar-powered buggies for your correspondent PM?

With reference to PM's request to find someone to build buggies for National Trust properties, could I recommend Garmendale Engineering Ltd. of Ilkeston, Derbyshire? (www.garmendale.co.uk). Amongst other projects, they made Malcolm Moss's solar powered electric car to travel across India (see www.mosssolar.com/solar_vehicles.htm and look at Solar No.1). That was designed to be lightweight, with large diameter wheels and independent suspension to cope with the rough roads of India. It was powered by a Lynch motor, which is simple to operate and maintain, and has immense efficiency.

I think that is more the kind of vehicle PM might require, rather than a milk float, which is designed to carry no passengers but a large weight and bulk of freight over tarmac road. The lower the weight, the lower the power required, and hence the lower the weight of batteries also required. I doubt the solar option would be a lot of use in this country.
