Where should I report speculative canvassers who text me regarding claims for non-existent accidents?

I just received a text from a mobile number stating: "Free Msg; Our records indicate you may be entitled to £3,750 for the accident you had. To apply free reply CLAIM to this message. To opt out text STOP.” I haven't had an accident of any kind, nor did I give these people my mobile number. It doesn't specify an automobile accident, but that would be my immediate assumption, although I guess they've left it open in order to cover a multitude of sins. I'd like to get this kind of practice closed down - can you tell me who I should report this to?

Unfortunately this type of speculative canvassing is not illegal, but making a spurious damage or injury claim definitely would be. Report to the claims regulators: www.www.cueuk.org ; www.ico.gov.uk; www.claimsregulation.gov.uk

Happily, The Jackson Report is being adopted and should put an end to this sort of thing by making it impossible for third parties to profit from it. Google ‘Jackson Report’ for the detail.
