How can a VIN manufacture date be after than the first registered date?

My Jeep Grand Cherokee was first registered in 2013 however the VIN tells me it was manufactured in 2014? How can this happen?

As it's impossible for the car to be registered before it was built, the most likely explanation is that this is an administration error by the DVLA and it should have a 2014 registration date. You may need to contact the manufacturer directly in order to obtain confirmation of the build date which you can pass on to the DVLA.
