Scam spam

I appear to be receiving, daily, via email, notification of a speeding violation in New York State from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The date of the offense was May 2011 but I was not in New York State at that point and in fact have not been to America since the year 2000.

Do I Ignore as spam or react by contacting the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to explain? The email as sent to me is a non reply document. If you want I can forward via email a copy of the alleged offense. Is any one else getting this rubbish and are there any ramifications should I choose to ignore it? For instance will I be arrested next time I visit or will it Jeopardise any further visa applications I might make to visit the USA?
