Burning smell in a Mondeo

I've recently bought a Mondeo Titanuim X Sport 163 and after driving the car today for about 20 minutes and arriving back home I noticed a knocking or flapping noise in sync with the engine that I've never heard before whilst parking.

When i got out of the car i could smell a very strong burning smell almost like a burnt rubber or clutch smell from the rear of the car. I've only had the car under a fortnight and it's still under its ford warranty. I wondered if it was related to the particulate filter. Any advice.

The burning smell is probably the diesel particulate filter regenerating. It has to get extremely hot for that to happen and sometimes it is still happening when you pull up to park the car.
