Fiesta cuts out

I have a 1996 Ford Fiesta 1.3.

The problem that I am having with my car is that it doesn't seem to be ticking over and just keeps cutting out.

From when I start the engine, if i am not applying pressure to the throttle, then the car just cuts out.

Also when approaching junctions or traffic lights and changing down the gears, my car will also cut out.

I really dont know what the issue is but I believe the problem can be dangerous so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

A narrow pipe in the throttle control system gums up with hydrocarbon sludge. This is not something you can fix yourself.
