Turbo tubing trouble

I have bought a Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI from a garage, but within a month of having the car I noticed a lack of power followed by the engine management light coming on. I have taken this back to the garage under warranty and he first tried telling me it is a faulty sensor that is attached to the turbo, and as such is an electrical component and I would have to purchase a new turbo as it is part of the unit.

After a bit of digging I argued I do not believe it is the case. I requested the sensor name and he could not provide it. He has now said he found that the turbo pipe was split so has replaced it.

My question is if the turbo pipe split will this have damaged the turbo at all? I would like to ensure the car is right before the warranty runs out. Is there a way of having this checked?

If the problem was caused by a split turbo pipe and replacing it has removed the problem, then there is no problem.
