Exhausted

Had the mid section and rear box of the exhaust replaced at the beginning of March 2011.

One fault is that the exhaust whines on acceleration - I assume this is because it is a new part and needs to be run in.

The main fault is that since the replacement I can hear a sound, best described as a warble, from below where I sit (possibly from the Cat Converter) and also feel some vibrations created by the sound in the accelerator pedal. It’s as if the exhaust fumes are not being cleared out of the engine.

It is intermittent when driving, but constant when coasting in neutral or using engine braking.

Local garage (didn't do original work) put car on the ramp and pointed out the clamps (x2) holding the exhaust were loose, which they tightened. On driving afterwards the sound persisted.

Would a new exhaust system cause damage to the Catalytic converter? (the cat converter was last changed in April 2006)?

Surely this has a diesel particulate filter and that could be the problem. But rather then worry about it and spend money, why not simply move the car on and get something else?
