A new car for all conditions

I have a 2006 Volkswagen Passat.

However, I now regularly drive over a half-mile long dirt track which has a fair gradient in parts, but is not extremely steep, and which has some sharp bends.

My Passat has not been able to get me over this during the snow and ice of the last two winters, especially on a section of the track which is concreted over.

Otherwise, my driving is normal urban driving. The ground clearance on the Passat is inadequate and from time to time I hear horrible scraping sounds. On one occasion a suspension coil snapped and I have had damage to the gaiters/bushes.

I have read extensively about 4x4s, crossovers, winter tyres on 2WDs, improved traction systems etc and am getting very confused!

I would be grateful for any advice you can give. Budget up to around £23,000.
