Should I apply for my driving licence now?

As my licence has to be renewed in August, can I apply now for renewal in view of the backlog? The DVLA ,in the past, has sent me paperwork for completion of renewal, can I get this renewal paper work from the government website or do I have to wait for the DVLA to send me the paperwork?

I believe the earliest you can apply is 90 days before your licence expires. That is when the DVLA sends out renewal forms. Alternatively, you can get forms from the Post Office.

However, the quickest way to apply is online, if you're able to, as the DVLA says it takes less than five days (the delays are with paper applications).
