Should I sell my Volkswagen Passat while used car prices are still high?

I own a 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT 1.5 TSI Petrol DSG, with a panoramic roof, with 24,000 miles on the clock. It is in very good condition with a full VW service history. With used car values still high it was recently valued in the range of £18,500 to £19,000 so should I consider selling now?

I love the car but next year the cam belt, water pump, etc will need replacing (would you know the estimated cost as VW wont give me a straight answer?). Also, since owning the car I have read that the type of DSG box fitted to my car could be an issue.

This car was bought new at a discounted price because of WLTP delays at a cost of £21,500 and I am looking to spend no more than £25,000 to replace it with a petrol, although not sure what to buy yet.

We have in the family a second run-around that we can use but would like to replace it within six months again with a general all-round vehicle with good build quality and comfort and not as big a car as the Passat.

Don't hurry to sell your Passat. It sounds ideal for your needs and bear in mind that any replacement car will also be expensive in the current market. While DSG gearboxes have been problematic in the past, they don't seem as troublesome in cars as new as yours. A gearbox oil change might help its longevity.

Volkswagen quotes £669 to change the cambelt on a Passat – that sounds a lot of money but I'm sure you'd be able get a better deal by shopping around. Our Good Garage Guide can help you find a trusted independent garage: good-garage-guide.honestjohn.co.uk/
