Time to switch?

Not usually indecisive but can't decide whether its time to trade in my relaiable Volvo V50 2.4i for something diesel. There's quite a few good deals out there but it's never put a foot wrong in 102,000 miles and has always received requisite service and Volvo parts.

The wallet tells me to stick and get another 60,000 out of it as it owes me nothing (do circa 30,000 per annum), but my head says trade in now, get estimated £4000 toward next car (which will be cheaper to run) and save my £350 per month car allowance so I have a nice deposit in two years' time.

Work pays for fuel, but I pay the tax element and it is a bit of a guzzler, although averages 33mpg, which is still the same as factory spec even after the mileage. Been offered a Lexus IS220d for £8000 on a 57-plate (33k on clock) and tempted.

A diesel is only cheaper to run in fuel. With diesel particulate filters, dual mass flywheels, EGR valves and turbos failing they are not cheaper to run overall. So soldier on with what you've got.
