What do wheel markings stand for?

At the back of the alloy wheel there is a serial number like '7.0Jx17H2ET40'. What is it? Another alloy has a '7.5Jx.....etc.' What is the difference between 7.0 and 7.5?

The first number '7.0/7.5' is the width of the wheel in inches. The 'J' is marking the tyre profile needed for passenger cars. The middle number (17 in this case) is the diameter of the wheel itself in inches. And the 'ET' number at the end is the offset: the distance between the wheel's hub mounting surface and the centre line of the wheel.
