Brace yourself for a belting

Could you please advise me about a hefty service quotation I have received from the local Volvo main dealer for a 100,000-mile service of my 1996 Volvo S40 automatic? They have serviced the car since I purchased it from them in 2001, and they now say that it needs a major service including new timing belt, even though the car has only 53,000 miles on the clock. Am I right to question this and is their discounted quotation of £475.99, which includes an M.O.T., a reasonable price to pay?

Yes, needs a belt change on age grounds, and if that £475.99 includes belt, tensioner, pulleys, service and MoT it is a reasonable quotation even though the car is only worth about the same.
