Gripping yearn

Is there a good reason why cars do not have a grab handle above the drivers door? I've moved one such handle from the rear of my Colt to the drivers side as the fittings were already in place but am unable to do so on my other car as it has no fittings, just a shaped area in the roof lining.

Because the driver is supposed to have both hands on the wheel. But I appreciate they can help the elderly or infirm to emerge from a car. Some makes and models do still have them. The Insignia does.
