Forever young

My wife's Audi A2 1.4 diesel has approx 16,500 miles on the clock, mostly on short journeys. It is just over 3 years old and our Audi dealer has recommended changing the cambelt on the basis of time. This is an expensive job but is it justified?

Three years is a bit premature. 4 years or 40k miles whichever comes first is the usual recommendation. But are you sure your A2 is just 3 years old? Audi stopped making them in January 2005, which is 4 years 10 months ago. Maybe it was late registered and is well over 4 years old.
