Deliverance

Regarding the Scrappage Scheme, I notice, in the link you provided, that "the new car must be delivered within 16 weeks of the date of order". I ordered a VW Golf under the Scrappage Scheme 14 weeks ago, and there is still no definite delivery date - apparently 1.4 TSIs are as rare as hens teeth. When I placed the order I was told by the dealer about the need to register the car within 4 months (which I equated to 16 weeks) of the order date. What happens if my dealer fails to meet the 16-week deadline? Do I lose the £2,000 discount, or just the Government's £1,000 contribution, or nothing at all? I will argue that I have a valid order from the dealer which gives me a price-to-pay that includes the Scrappage discount and makes no mention at all of the 16 week deadline. Although I was told upfront that this model was in short supply, at no time was I told that if I went ahead and placed an order, it would be at my risk, as to whether I got the discount, depending on when they could get the car. What's your view?

This is happening to quite a few people. There needs to be a County Court decision to lay down the law as to what people are entitled to. Better still, one upheld on appeal to the new Supreme Court. As things stand, Johnson v HWM Ltd 17-3-1997 Kingston County Court
allows an indefinite delivery date and also change of specification
of the car in between dealer order and manufacturer delivering the car to the dealer.
