Power Afflicted Steering

My Meriva developed the Electric Power Steering fault before the warranty ran out but the Vauxhall garage said they could not find the fault. Now two years on it is getting worse. I have complained to Vauxhall head office but all I got was a complaints number. It has got to a point where my wife can't drive it any more as the steering is to heavy for her. When is Vauxhall going to accept responsibility for this fault? I can't afford £800 to get it fixed and even if I did, why should I have to pay to fix their faulty components?

This is a very common problem with Merivas and at least 20 readers have e-mailed me about it. But now even the UK body that is supposed to issue vehicle safety recalls (VOSA) is refusing unless the cars suffer “design and construction defects that fail with no warning and are likely to cause death or serious injury.” All you can do is join a class action against GM Vauxhall. Or possibly get BBC Watchdog onto it.
