Further to my e-mail of 27 July 09, detailing problems with the gearbox on my Seat Altea Sport.
FIRST bill £1,004 after 35% goodwill from SEAT UK.
SECOND bill £984 following failure of the oil cooler mixed coolant with the transmission fluid. Flushing out of gearbox failed to remove all contaminants, leaving jerky gearchanges.
THIRD bill £3,327 for a new gearbox, with SEAT UK not prepared to make a contribution.
Total expenditure £5,315 on a vehicle with under 32k miles, and a trade-in value of probably around £7,500 at best. I didn't realise SEAT motoring came at such a price.

In the USA, there is a 56,600 car recall of VWs and Audis with DSG/S-tronics transmission built between 2007 and 2009. In the UK, VOSA’s Automotive Safety Recalls Manager says it does not recall cars unless they suffer “design and construction defects that fail with no warning and are likely to cause death or serious injury.” VOSA did not recall Mercedes W210 E Class for collapsing front spring perches, Vauxhall Cavaliers, SAAB 9-3s and Daewoo Esperos for steering racks breaking away from their bulkheads, Vauxhall Merivas for power steering failures or various 3 – 6 year old VAG models for failing ABS systems.
