Favoured Five

I felt you may be able to point us in the right direction regarding the search for a replacement of our present car. I took it over from my father 16 years ago. He bought it new in 1991. It is a Renault 5 Campus, 1,108cc 5-door (hatchback) first registered 25-03-1991, mileage – 54,333. Our helpful 'Mr Chris' at the garage where we have had it serviced over this period is now advising us to urgently look for a 'new' car because there are some expensive replacements required very soon. We have found this Renault 5 to be an ideal 'work horse' for all our needs. The car is used on weekly visits to the allotment, as a frequent carrier for - gardening tools, ladder (I have a roof rack for longer objects) and materials related to my work, and for mosaic tiles, equipment, materials, tools, batches of prepared mosaic panels - approx. 60 x 50 cm relating to my partner’s work, occasional travels out of London - Chelmsford, or further afield eg. Norfolk / Lake District / Cornwall. In the past we have travelled to Scotland and once to Southern France. The car is parked on the main street nearby using a resident's permit. Our budget is £5,000 for a used car or around £7,000 if we take advantage of the 'scrappage scheme' to buy a new car. We would like to find a car with similar attributes.

New, I can't think of any Renaults that qualify. A Twingo is too small for your needs. A Kangoo or Modus too expensive. You might just about get a Citroen Nemo Multispace base model or a FIAT QUBO or Peugeot Bipper base model for £7k + the scrap.
