Satellite Navfrustration

Having been influenced (again) by your reports, I bought an ex Honda CR-V CDTI EX. It does what it says on the label: 40+ mpg, comfortable, although nasty interior plastics, and no diesel auto, yet. I am not a technophobe and didn't enquire too closely about the satnav, but was annoyed to find all the roundabouts featured on the A1 which have been removed over the past years. The satnav disc is 2006/07 which Honda assure me is correct for an 08 vehicle, but an upgrade is some £150. I disposed of my Tom-Tom satnav, which was current, not realising the date issue. Had I realised this I could have done it with the deal at the time, so thought it worth mentioning as a "caveat emptor" for others, but in fairness would not have expected a salesman to point this out. I have had occasion to call in to the dealer for advice on the vehicle and am greeted with courtesy and interest, hence my second Honda. I hope it will prove as reluctant to visit the garage as our Jazz, and am not surprised to see Honda agencies high in the satisfaction ratings. Thank you for your continuing motorists' support, and greetings from your former "stamping ground"

CD Rom, then DVD satnav was a highly profitable extra for manufacturers, charging £1,500 to £3,000 for what could be bought on the aftermarket for £200. Now they can't get away with it any more and many factory fitted satnavs are hard disk so updates can be uploaded. But the best are SD card based, as fitted to Nissans and Renaults, and Fords too, from just £450 as a factory fit. The SD cards can be updated, or fresh info uploaded to a new SD card and very easily plugged into the kit.
