White fan drivers

I have a 2005 Peugeot 307 HDI and occasionally the fan comes on during and after driving for no apparent reason. This would last for between 10 and 15 minutes and the noise coming from it is extremely loud and extremely embarrassing especially when you are sitting in rush hour traffic and everyone is looking at you to see what the noise is. Even when the car is turned off after a journey (short or long journey, it doesn't make a difference) the fan stays on for at least 10 minutes and once it actually ran my battery down which obviously meant the car wouldn't start. Any solutions? Please help if you can.

Could be normal. The fans switch on by thermo switch screwed into the water jacket of the block. When you stop, the residual heat in the engine and the fact no air is passing through the radiator can be enough to switch the fan on. But it's worth checking that there isn't either a blockage in the engine's cooling system or an airlock that is leading to localised overheating (around the thermo switch). Could be that the coolant thermostat is seized shut.
