Done all cambelt

I read with interest your reply to AP on the subject of cambelts. You said that Ford/PSA diesels were "good for 60,000 miles". I have a Berlingo with the 2-litre HDI engine and the handbook says change the belt at 160,000km (100,000 miles). Since October 2004, my car has covered 140,000 km, but when I asked my garage if they would change the belt now they said "not necessary; wait until 160k". In your opinion are both Citroen and my garage being very optimistic?

I don't get a lot of reports of these belts breaking. What used to happen was the spoked timing belt pulley fractured. Have a look. If yours is spoked, I'd have it and the belt changed. If it's solid milled with holes to lighten it, then it should be okay.
