Cover-up job

I ordered a new Skoda Superb SE Diesel 170HP DSG from Meadens Skoda, Sway, Hampshire for delivery 1st March 2009. They have offered to give the vehicle the "Auto Glym Treatment" for £249 including a large bag full of cleaning products. £249 sounds expensive to me. I would be grateful if you could let me know if the treatment is worthwhile, and is £249 a fair price?

That is the reasonable end of the standard price for the Autoglym
Lifeshine package with customer aftercare pack. It costs the dealer about £60, plus the price of hiring someone to apply the paint treatment and the interior Scotchguard. The rest is salesman's commission and profit. You can’t do it yourself in winter weather. But when it warms up and you get a long dry day you can approximate the treatment with Autoglym Super Resin polish and repeated applications of Extra Gloss Protection, each of which take about an hour to cure. 3 coats of Extra Gloss is about the same as one of Lifeshine. DIY costs you about £30.
