Gripping yawn

I currently drive a BMW 530d and I love the engine, but not the lack of 'kit' in the car or the lack of grip in poor weather. We live in a rural area of the Pennines and I've already been stuck more than once this winter while my wife’s Freelander has no such problems. I will be getting a new car soon and with the current drop in second-hand prices I am thinking of a year old Range Rover Sport rather than another 5 Series. In order to enjoy a driver's car I think that I will need the TDV8. I've driven the TDV6 and while the car itself was lovely it was not exactly brisk. I am aware that I will suffer an increase in tax due to the hike in CO2, but this does not bother me, what would bother me is spending £ 000 for a car that will have lots of problems. If I buy a 1-year-old Range Rover Sport TDV8, will I be getting a reliable car, as I'm pretty sure I would with a 5 Series of the same age? Or do you know of issues with LandRover that would suggest I should avoid it? I have never bought a second-hand car for anything like this value before and am nervous about this.

They are better than they were. Lots of unsold new ones. Yes, a 3.6 TDV8 is quicker, but a 2.7 TDV6 is more economical. And there is now a new, even more economical 3.0 TDV6. Problems that have come in are in car-by-car breakdown at hjuk. I'd also think along the lines of a Lexus RX400h. They go like a V8 SUV, yet sip fuel at a lower rate than a diesel SUV. It's one hybrid combination that really does offer a performance and economy advantage over a diesel
