Less to the pound

Really enjoyed your test of the Mazda 6 2.2 diesel. This car is on my shortlist to replace my current Mondeo 2.2 Titanium X estate that is now 2 years old. The only problem here in France is the exchange rate. I have got to buy a smaller car to use in Italy, a Polo 1.2 petrol. €13,000 in Treviso for a 70bhp ‘Comfortline’ 5-door, but at a rate of exchange of 1.19 (on 13-11-08) to transfer the money, it is too much. Although you can buy right hand drive cars in the EU to import into the UK, will dealerships in the UK accept an order for a LHD car?

Very difficult to get a LHD in the UK, and impossible to get a good deal on one, like you can on over-produced RHDs. A UK dealer would have to source it from Europe anyway, so would not
benefit from the forward-bought Sterling rate at which RHD cars are imported. The way Sterling has been dropping recently could put up the cost of a Eurozone import by 30%.
