Thirst among equals

I bought a Hyundai i10 on HJ's recommendation but am unhappy about the fuel consumption. It is not used for many long runs but we live in a rural location so not much time spent in slow traffic. I started checking fuel use after 2,000 miles and the figures from 1,900 miles to 3,600 miles average 38mpg. The place where I bought the car has lost its Hyundai franchise but I could take it to another garage. Is there any point?

The reason may be temporary slight binding of the brakes due to the ABS cutting in because the brake light sensor has been screwed too tightly into the master cylinder. Get it to a Hyundai dealer to be checked. I got over 50mpg, both from the i10 1.2 and from the i20 1.2 fitted with the same engine.
