These fuelish things

Have I been mis-sold a car? I feel I have. I was assured that I could not put petrol into a diesel engine by a Citroen salesmen. He categorically assured me that this was no longer possible. Needless to say (albeit 3 years on), this is exactly what happened. The dealership will not even investigate my allegation. Is this common practice?

You cannot put diesel into a petrol because the diesel nozzle is wider
than the petrol filler tube. But unless the car is fitted with a misfuelling prevention device (as is a modern Ford), you can put the narrow nozzle of a petrol pump into the wider filler tube of a diesel car.
