My 320 Sport 177 diesel, a 2008 model with 16,500 miles on the clock, does between 47 and 54mpg. This is driving in a saintly fashion. The figures quoted by BMW are a myth and unachievable. Each 320 diesel has different variants of their efficient dynamic features but are quoted with the same fuel consumption figures.

Realistically, what you are getting is as good as it gets. The current crop of super low CO2 and super high mpg are pie in the sky, achieved only in self-certification test conditions in perfect temperatures on a low rolling resistance chassis dynamometer. Honda is more honest, even though this meant it could not certify the Jazz I-Shift at the promised tax-friendly 119g/km. The forthcoming 100,000 kilometre ‘in service’ figures will be more realistic.
