I have a friend who is a recluse living with his dog at the end of a rough, mile-long, track. He is of limited means; but he is a mechanical genius who has managed to keep his ancient Land Rover roadworthy himself despite increasingly frequent component failures. However the vehicle has just about reached the end of the road. He is reluctant to buy an up-to-date vehicle because he would be unable to cope with any repairs needed to modern electronics. So he needs a rugged vehicle that is not too complex for him to maintain himself. He would also like one he can convert into a basic camper-van. Unfortunately I have no firm idea as to his budget, but I would be very grateful if you would make recommendations based on hypothetical budgets of, say, £3,000 and £5,000.
