Old question

Following advice from you the other day I'm looking to get a 2nd hand Ford Mondeo Estate. I've narrowed the choice to two 2.0 TDCi versions - they're both at the same price. One is '05 reg, 48k miles, the other '06 reg 57k miles - but apart from that they seem identical. Is it better to get a newer car with higher mileage or slightly older car with lower mileage?

Always better to by the newer car with the higher mileage. The older car is still an older car and will always be worth less and will suffer the component failures of an older car.
