It might depend on the kind of driving you do. The new Toyota Corolla Hybrid is very refined around town, although it's a bit noisier on the motorway thanks to its CVT gearbox. If you can wait until next year, there's a new Volkswagen Golf due to go on sale, which is likely to be very refined. Alternatively, get a good deal on the current car. I'd also take a look at the Kia Ceed and Ford Focus.
