Buying a left hand drive car

We live in London but holiday mainly in Europe driving there with our dogs. We drive quite infrequently in London so do most of our driving in Europe. We are about ot change our car in April 2011. A left hand drive car would be an advantage but have no idea about how sensible it would be to buy one or how to go about it.

Any advice you could give would be welcome including "dont be so stupid"!
