soft suspension

I'm looking for your advice on which car to buy; middle size/middle price saloon but one with a soft suspension. My wife has a back problem which is getting worse. We have changed a Mini for a 3 Series BMW but she still finds travelling on the country roads around here painful. Would I be right in thinking specifying the size of tyres/wheels might help?

Renault Megane hatchback on standard 15" wheels with 195/65 profile tyres. That has the best ride in the class. Strangely not so good in the Megane Scenic. But the more upright seats of a new Ford C-Max or Vauxhall Meriva on sensible wheels and tyres might suit her better.
