Pick-ups and Light Commercial Vehicles

Good: Reliable and feels good quality. Car-like interior. Useful rear hinged rear doors on crew cab.
Bad: Ford Ranger is far superior.
Good: Very refined and car-like to drive. Upmarket cabin. Durable and well built. Smooth common-rail TDI engine. Available as a Shuttle which seats up to nine. ESP stability control as standard.
Bad: Not quite as many variations available as there are with the Ford Transit.
Good: Extremely tough running gear. Long tyre life. Four star Euro NCAP crash safety rating.
Bad: Small load bed on double cab but overcome with long bed version. 2.5 DI-D still belt cam. Interior not as good as a Nissan Navara.
Good: The most popular van in the UK, superb in-cab refinement, tight turning circle and impressive handling, huge choice means there's something to suit all needs, ESP standard.
Bad: Load bay not as big as some rivals, curious that speed limiter can be switched off, some interior plastics feel flimsy.
Good: Tough workhorse. Excellent tow vehicle. Tailgate drops lower than others. Compatible with digital tachographs from 2007. Good value.
Bad: Originally less refined than many contemporary pick-ups but much improved from 2007 facelift.
Good: Rugged and very reliable pick-up that's also good to drive. Robust interior.
Bad: Not quite a match for the Nissan Navara when it comes to refinement.
Good: Car-like to drive with good balance of ride and handling, 1.8 TDCi engine is strong, load area can deal with two pallets, ESP is standard fit.
Bad: Only has a five-speed manual where most of the competition now has six-speed gearboxes.
Good: Better to drive than previous Ranger. Capable of seriously hard graft even by pick-up standards.
Bad: Still slightly off the pace for comfort and refinement.
Good: Cheap.
Bad: The D22's appalling reputation for engine failures.
Good: A seriously strong and capable work behicle, much better to drive than previous B-Series pick-up, further improved with 2008 facelift.
Bad: Not as refined or comfortable as its contemporary rivals.
