Mercedes-Benz A-Class (2005 - 2012)
A 160 BlueEFFICIENCY Classic SE 5dr
Practical, well put together, slow and not bought for the looks.
Bought this car a little cheap runabout as my wife needed to drive to a new office and the school run would be at the same time.
Didn't expect to be buying an A-Class. There was a cheap one at a dealer. Heater didn't really work and it was a bit tatty.
Heater fixed with a relay from ebay. Gave it a bit of TLC and it has been a great little car for the school run, and become a reliable runabout that we use way more than we expected.
Good:
Spacious for a small car
Came with auto lights (that still work perfectly)
Safe
Solidly put together
Gearshift is super slick.
This one came with alloys (most didn't)
Bad:
Ugly
Slow
Expensive to repair when the big things do start going wrong. The trick sandwich floor and engine make getting to things a real pain. Brakes are not as straightforward to fix as other cars.
Not the most economical small car.
Mercedes couldn't do red. The lacquer on the paint is coming off.
Aircon doesn't blow cold.
It's a great car for short runs although it did cope really well going from Glasgow to Dundee. Just don't expect to get up to speed in a hurry. 0-60... yes, eventually.
