New Valero fuel brand to launch in UK

Valero is a new fuel brand coming to the UK that will launch in Wales later this month ahead of a nationwide roll-out.

The new fuel brand will take over three existing Texaco filling stations in Carmarthen, west Wales.

Valero bosses plan to follow this up with expansion to other areas of the UK, and aim for its blue and yellow branding to become a familiar site with UK motorists.

The official launch of Valero later this month will also launch the brand’s new SaveUp loyalty programme.

Motorists can earn one point for every litre of fuel purchased. 500 points earns them a £5 voucher, which can be used at M&S, Argos, John Lewis and Love2Shop.

Those who sign up at launch to the Valero SaveUp loyalty scheme will get 200 points for free.

Valero was founded in Texas back in 1980. Over the past four decades, Valero has grown to become the world’s largest independent refiner and largest producer of low-carbon transport fuels.

It has more than 6000 service stations across the US and Latin America. The three Welsh filling stations are its first in the UK – although Valero has been present in the UK for some time, through its Pembroke oil refinery.

"Valero provides an industry-leading fuel supply package," said Darren Briggs, founder and CEO of Ascona Group, which operates the filling stations launching the Valero brand.

"We are delighted to be supporting the team there as they embark on an exciting new phase of their UK strategy."

Is using Shell V-Power once every five tanks worth it?

Is a tank of Shell petrol V power every 5th fill worth it? Does it have a decent cleaning effect over one tank of fuel? Should I go with it consistently?
Using the odd tank of premium fuel is better than none at all, but to get the maximum benefit it would be worth using it at every fill up if this is a viable option. One tank would likely have a small cleaning effect, but five tanks of regular fuel might be enough to undo any potential benefit.
