Citroen C1 - El - copper 22

Hi, An elderly friend has a C1 purchased from new in '95. The Electric Power Steering started to intermittingly fail 6 months ago. It fails when the car is either at idle with the engine running or when started up ,never when being driven. It fails once or twice in a typical day.
A local [very small] country garage could not diagnose the problem apart from suggesting a new £2K pump. However they did fit a switch by the drivers leg that he was told to operate on and of a few times every time the PS failed. This works sometimes but is hardly a sensible usable fix.
Any help on guidance to fix this fault economically will be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

I guess you mean it is a 2005 model.Eps problems on these are fairly common. The fault is often caused by faulty relays in the eps control unit. They are replaceable, but you would need to fine an electronics engineer to take on the job.It is not really a diy repair.hth

The ECU can fail, not a cheap fix, but as the EPS is electric start with the battery. A problematic battery can throw up all sorts of electrical gremlins.
