Toyota Hilux Vs Jaguar XK - Parked car accident. - Funk

Hi,

Need some specific advice I couldn't find in the threads...

Bumped a car, swapped contact details, they thought it minor: cash not insurance deal but... Big quote: What now? (Details below)...

I bumped a a parked car one week ago in a private car park, my fault (clearly). Spoke with the owner and swapped contact details. As there was no visible damage, albeit at night and with the aid of a torch we agreed to wait until he'd checked in daylight.

Contacted the following day, apparently a dent in the bonnet (of a six week old Jaguar), which he felt would be a minor job and therfore could be settled without insurance.

Having got a quote of cica £2000 as his initial estimation was according to the body specialist, way off the mark.

So my question is; where do I go from here? It's clearly my error, no contention there and I don't get the feeling the owner is trying to rip me off. Everything has been reasonable. But, what should I do to cover myself from potential fraud (I've not seen the bump and took no photo's). I'm happy to run this through my insurance, does he just need my details?

Unbiased advice would be really appreciated!

Go with insurance, should end up less than two grand, and technically you have to inform them of the accident anyway.......so you will be penalised for it in any case
