Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe - automatic transmission oil & filter change - VictorP

Mercedes-Benz recommends that the automatic transmission oil and filter are changed once at 37,500 miles on the C 220 CDI Sport Coupe. Cost about £220. It seems very early in a car's life to carry out such a change. Is it really necessary and what is/are the reason(s) for this?

Those who run Mercs to 250,000+ miles swear by having regular auto transmission fluid changes. Just like engine oil, the fluid becomes contaminated so needs changing.

It is a job which must be done properly as its quite tricky to get the old fluid out and the correct amount in.

If you are keeping the car have it done, if not its up to you.

every 40k is pretty much standard for most autoboxes

Is that £220 quote from a main dealer?, you should get a better price from a good make specialist indy.

I always change all transmission oils and other fluids at sensible time/mileage intervals, seldom get a problem.

Is this an MB specialist?, i only ask as it needs the torque converter draining as well as the box, not suggesting in any way that your local garage is lacking, but having run older MB's for many years with the knowledge and skills of probably the country's oldest established MB indy (who has saved me £thousands), i believe they are not a car to be entrusted to just a general garage.

No, my local garage is good but not an MB specialist. I think I'll take your good advice and go to an MB Indy. Thanks for taking the trouble to follow up.
