MGF VVC 1997 - wont start in rain

MGF VVC 1997 - wont start in rain - dp2263

I have owned my mgf for a long while but recently it will not start in the rain so i have to shut the fuel off and turn it over and then it fires up and then quickly have to reset the fuel stop in the boot !
i dont know whether this has anything to do with it but when warmed it the engine runs at 1500 revs tickover. i have been to three garages and they all say different except price will be min £500 !!!!!!!
can you please help

It won't start because it does not exist, the car was not introduced until 1995.

Sounds like:

Overfuelling when cold.

Gummed up throttle body giving high idle.

Take out and clean job I suggest.

(I assume it has been serviced and teh fuel and air filters are newish?)
