Get the diagnostic codes read - a code or codes will be stored and that will point toward the fault. Avoid franchised dealers, they charge an arm and leg just to read the codes - ring round local independents, they'll have a fixed price just to read the codes.

Any cost of rectification can only be determined after you've got the codes.
