Hi all. Hope you can help

After being stuck in stop go traffic for over an hour on a really hot day, I got 100yd from my home and the engine cut out. I managed to get it restarted but as it was an automatic I really battled to get it home but finally did.

Left the car for about an hour or two and managed to get it started again so drove it a few meters into the garage. Next day when starting the car it would just cut out. After revving it for a while it held the revs and I decided to try a trip. Big mistake.. Every time I took my foot off the gas it would die. Very very tricky to get home but again I managed.

Online forums tend to indicate it could be a damaged temp sensor and that I shoul try replacing it.

Is this a fair assessment as I am a complete dork when it comes to vehicles.
