Imports how can you tell they are kosher - Niallster

Forgive my ingnorance but on this subject I don't even know what I don't know.

I am thinking of buying a car imported from Japan it has a UK reg plate but no tax. The seller also tells me the clocks have been changed to mph.

I think these things have to go through some sort of test. Type approval? Does the UK reg mean conclusively that this has been done or is there some sort of certificate I need to see?

I am not sure about the paper work required but if its a diesel the recent comment by a forum poster and the answer I should leave well alone or at least investgate a little further.The vehicle would only run on the most expenive of fuels due to the higher quality of fuel in Japan.Worth bearing in mind
