Peugeot 307 - Help with HPI check. - thewarden

Hello

I recently bought a car

Foolishly, I searched its history after I bought it, I cant explain why.

Anyway, the car is showing as stolen on the insurers register, but not on the Police register.

Ive contacted the seller who says "i know nothing of its history" and is happy for me to give his name to the Police.
Ive contacted the police but they werent interested as according to them the car isnt stolen.

The HPI firm say that for £20 they can contact the insurer to see if they still have an interest. They wont tell me who the insurer is.

Im reluctant to pay as im trying to do the right thing. I dont want to lay out £20 just to have them say "we're not bothered" or worse still "we're coming to get it".

I asked them who's actually looking for this car, they said nobody. its just on the register. So I can continue to use it and never get pulled? Yes, but it will just be difficult for me to sell.

Is there anyway for me to find out who the insurer was? What would be the recommended course of action. Any advice is greatly appreciated, as currently im feeling preety sick (and foolish) Thanks.

P.S. the log book has arrived and is in my name. If this helps.
