Sunroof Rubber Split ! - Swebb
Hi,

The rubber around the sunroof glass on my Rover has split along the seam where it was joined together originally. There is now a gap of about 1cm where the rubber has pulled apart.

I've tried pulling both ends of the rubber together but it won't budge. In the short term I've cut a piece of foam to shap to cover the hole but this won't last long term.

Any idea's ? Who can fix it ? Work arounds ?

Cheers

Steve

Ok any body know who Rover get to make make their sunroofs. I was thinking if I could get hold of a small strip of the original rubber I could make a nice fix.

Hi Swebb,
what car is it from? Have you had the car from new? Is the sunroof a factory-fit or dealer-fit? Manual or electric? Glass or metal?

Its off a Rover 200 SDI. Its factory fit, electric, sliding and tilt. Rover only sell the seal with the glass !!!.

Im thinking of getting some rubber sealant and filling the hold rough with it. Then finishing it off with a small bike puncture patch stretched over and glued. Im hoping this will allow for some movement with the changes in temp.

Any idea's ?

Try some of the specialist Rover breakers to see if you can get a secondhand glass complete with seal.

If you get the glass out and remove the seal, then refit pulling it tight along the other three sides should give you enough slack to butt the ends together and use rubber cement to stick together.

Just out of curiosity - how much is a new glass / seal from the dealers?

Scrap yard maybe?

If it is easy to remove the rubber, you could try super-glueing it together again and then replace it.

The sunroof glass and rubber from the dealer is £400 which is a complete joke !

As for pulling the existing rubber tight, I tried that and it didn't budge at all !

Whats this rubber cement then ?
