In an idle moment, had a look at the 'new' Punto Evo on the Fiat website.

These are some of the colours it comes in.....

Lyrical Grey
Acid Jazz Blue
Porgressive Black

and, best of all, "Easy Listening White"! Yes, Easy Listening White.

Can anyone beat that?

When I was considering an S-Max, Ford's 'Blue Ambition' struck me as pretty silly, but the pills must be a lot stronger at Fiat.

On the other hand, they've got us thinking about the Punto Evo, which I for one certainly wouldn't normally do, so perhaps they're on to something.

"Easy Listening White" is plain wrong - Easy Listening should be beige!

Easy Listening Beige with upholstery (and matching dangly bits above the windows) in Friday Night is Music Night Chintz?

I remember BMWs in lachs (salmon) silver. I guess UK buyers thought it was a hip German name.

Late 70's / early 80's Citroen had a colour called 'Fawn Beige' - we had an '82 Visa Special in it - it could only be described as poo brown! Still, it hid the rust I suppose....

Anyone seeing my CC3 would say it was dark metallic blue.

But I know it's much more exciting than that, it's Blue di Cina.

And it only comes on Focus CCs, which makes it so exclusive.

According to my wife, the colour of our Focus is 'old man blue'.

Ha ha! My missus used to call my FIAT Stilo Multiwagon "Grandad Green"! Light green metallic that was, I have no idea what the official, no doubt exotic, name was.
Colour names - how ludicrous will it get? - ifithelps
I would like to point out there is no connection - tonal or otherwise - between the colour of Focus's Focus and my CC3.

Parked side by side, a casual observer might say they are both dark blue, but some people just don't understand.

Only on a dark night - in fact mine is light metallic. No, I don't know what's 'old man' about that either...

My Focus is Juice Green. Now I've drunk a lot of juice in my life but I wouldn't touch anything the colour of my car.

Oh yes! I think that must have been the same colour as my dad's first BX, one of the very first of it's ilk... though plastic doesn't rust. Though (going off topic a bit) my personal favourite was his Hillman Avenger GT - don't know what it was called but a wonderful shade of mustard yellow with black go-faster stripes on the sills.

My 325i Touring is Lachs Silver...quite a nice colour I think :-)

Certainly beats a certain company car I once ordered; a Merc E Class estate in Cubanite Silver.

The leasing company had a choice of 3 available for quick delivery - black/black leather/privacy glass, which I decided was a bit funereal, metallic blue/blue (!) half leather, which I decided would look odd, and cubanite silver/black leather. Silly me didn't check what colour cubanite silver is (well, silver is silver isn't it...). It's metallic beige...and I was only in my early thirties at the time!! 40,000 miles in a beige diesel estate car - still haven't lived that down ;-)

My eldest son used to listen to a Radio 1 programme that had a quiz called 'pigment or figment', based on a similar situation WRT household paint. The real names were just as bizarre as the invented ones, so unless you had a Saturday job in B&Q, it was pretty much guesswork.

Sounds like the marketing men trying to justify their pointless existence again.. :-)

In the mid-90s, two of my friends bought, independently, Mazda 323Fs in what, to anyone who hadn't read the brochure, was metallic navy blue. How wrong we were - the colour was Noble Green. Honestly, it was as green as a policeman's uniform.

Reminds me of an advert for (I think) Dunlop tyres. It showed a paint colour card with about twelve equally-black panels. Under each was a description: e.g. "Hole of Calcutta" or somesuch.

"You can have any colour, so long as it's black" was the slogan :-)

Ford did a pale metallic blue on the Escort and Fiesta in the early 90's known as "Aqua Foam"

To me and my colleagues selling them at the time, it was known as "Pensioner Blue", after the average age of the people the colour seemed to appeal to.

Not a bad colour really. Just a stoopid name.

Rover were quite unimaginative with my Maestro. Stone grey. Road surface grey was more like it.

Citroens used to (maybe still do) with the paperwork itemising their red metallic as 'rouge lucifer', wouldn't like to buy one of those and find the chassis number ends in 3 identical numbers between 5 and 7...gulp.

Amusing when asked at the dealer if our pick up is carlo blue...bearing in mind there's only one blue available in the model it could well be.

'Charcoal grey' is a funny one in itself, Gmac. Charcoal has always looked black to me.

If a manufacturer wanted a car to appeal to young drivers they could paint it WicKeD Blue/Red/Orange.
Then again, there probably won't be many takers as the target audience are lying face down in the gutter most of the time if you believe what you read in the red tops.

My company Vectra 12 years ago was a reallocated car, its colour was Ceramic Blue - or pearlescent purple to my eyes when I picked it up, I learned to live with it.....

I've always quite liked light gold metallics but haven't ever actually bought / leased a car that colour due to Car Magazine describing it as 'OAP Beige'.

There's a Citroen metallic yellow colour often seen on sporty Xaras which I'd describe as 'metallic urine'.

Ford "Purple Velvet" was exotic (!) at the time. I had a Cortina 2 litre GT in it WITH a black vinyl roof!

The DVLA will bring you back to earth. Has anyone checked how their exotic colour is described on the V5? Mrs H's Citroen "Misty lilac" is shown as "Purple".

I'm actually quite disappointed with my titanium silver BMW now. Mind you, under the bonnet it says titansilber which is a bit fancier.

Ford Focus Colour=Maranello I think more Purple changes to Red (V5) changes to Black Forest Gateau (colleagues) or in poor light Brown !

A freind got stopped by the police because of this, Rover called it something blue, but anyone looking at it would say it was silver with maybe a hint of blue. Of course the boys in blue's ANPR says blue rover they see silver rover and stop to have a word.

My escort is Pepper Red, just what kind of pepper is a maroon coulor?

try registering a vehicle as multicoloured, dvla wont accept that either, they only want one predominant colour out of all of them of your choice

?The demo cars are silver,? cooed the smart young salesman?s voice.
?It looks well in the showroom. But for you, we offer choice:
There?s dogpoo brown, and cowpat green, and cameldroppings buff;
There?s lipstick pink, mascara black and all that sort of stuff;
There?s taupe and beige and fawn and cream and baby?s diarrhoea,
And one that rots your brain - we call it Huntington?s Chorea;
There?s psycho bronze and toerag grey; bipolar mauve (nice shade!);
And Mother Grogan?s water (nicknamed ?Libyan lemonade?);
There?s Detroit Red and Cilla Black, Josh White and Gordon Brown,
And Hughie Green and one called mud (much favoured out of town);
There?s tangerine-flake; alligator; lizard; orange peel;
And if you have the money, sir, there?s eau de bleeding nil;
Past caring white and miser?s gold ? I just remembered those ?
And timewarp lime (like something dripping from a toddler?s nose)??

The punter held his hand up. He felt extremely ill.
?Silver will do me fine?, he quavered. ?Send my firm the bill.?
?Fine choice, sir!? cried the salesman with a far from civil leer.
?The paperwork is ready. Just sign at the bottom here.?

I know you are right bb, but what colour do they expect you to give for a Polo Harlequin?
www.carandclassic.com/uploads/cars/volkswagen/3100...g
Colour names - how ludicrous will it get? - Mookfish
I would say the Polo Harlequin in that picture is green, the colour of the bodyshell, all the other colours are bolt on panels. There were 4 colour combinations available, they just swaped the panels from 4 different coloured polos.

Funny that, my dad's company Escort 25 years ago was also Ceramic Blue - but that was a non-metallic, very light blue not dissimilar to the background to these posts!

In 2001 I had a brand new Octavia in "Diamant Silver", ie silver like a thousand other Skoda minicabs, it was described on the V5 as "grey".
The now-ex Mrs had (she still has in fact) a '99 Mondeo in "Medium Steel Blue", ie metallic light blue, but on the V5 it's described as "silver"!

Back in the days when I had a Galaxy, Ford had a metallic lilac/silver colour, called cuirass. No idea how to pronounce this, but I assumed cuir should be pronouced as in French, meaning 'leather'. So that would be 'queer-ass'. So if someone asked you 'what colour's you car mate?', you had to be careful the answer wasn't taken the wrong way.....

BTW, my Galaxy was a nice denim blue, but one of my colleagues actually ordered one in cuirass!

I had a 206 with the same V5 entry.

Slightly off topic, DVLA really are a law unto themselves.
My current car has only ever been manufactured as a 4 door saloon. When I bought the car it was listed on the V5 as a 5 door estate. The manufacturer wrote to DVLA correcting the mistake. It is now listed on the V5 as a 3 door hatchback.
