99 1.25 difficulty engaging 5th gear - jlb
the car has only done 34000 miles but its difficult to get into 5th gear. 1 in 5 attemps. last owner (senior years)never used 5th. i have changed gear oil and put treatment in. no different. is the 5th gear which is bolted onto end of gearbox easy to work on and replace any worn parts or am i better getting another box. is there anything else i can try. gear linkage looks ok and sits in middle of gate ok. all other gears work fine.

I would try setting up the linkage first,not just checking the travel;Haynes tells you how.You'd have to reset the linkage if you did any work on the box.

thanks JC2 , I'll have to borrow my mates haynes manual and try what you have suggested.I'll let you know how i get on..cheers.
